I know that taking the perfect photo is not easy and less if you seek to tell a story with it. That’s why I want to show you some tips and tricks. Take advantage of your next trip to an archaeological site and capture an incredible photo.

1.- Forget selfies

There was a time when selfies were very popular, but all fashion is temporary. Today, a selfie is no longer a resource that adds something to a photograph. Instead of doing the same over and over again, try to be part of the composition. You will become one more element of the scene, but not the main one.

2.- Play with the angles

A big detail we tend to forget when photographing archaeological sites is the angle. With the right one, we can give the photograph a completely different sense. With that in mind, think of all the different photos you can take of a single site. Don’t be afraid to make the weirdest poses to achieve the best picture.

3.- Integrate a character

Yes, photos of landscapes are great, but sometimes they fall short if your goal is to impress and captivate your audience. This changes radically when you add a character, a small detail with which you can tell a complete story with a single photo. With a character everything changes, the imagination enters the game: how did that person get there? What’s his/her story? And many other questions.

4.- Do not be afraid of editing

I’m not talking about adding stars and the moon to a standard photo, but knowing how to apply specific changes in a picture that highlight the colors, the place, the character, and the composition itself. I’m talking about shadows, intensity, colors, curves. Maybe now you do not understand much about these features, but many easy-to-use Apps will take you step by step to make an extraordinary edition. An example is Snapseed, you will do wonders with your photos with just a couple of changes.
